After the night in the campground at "Buffulo Bill State Park" we motored on into Cody for Breakfast. Cody really plays up it's western heritage. From ther we headed South and East through wide tracts of Wyoming, stopping for lunch at the Thermopolis Hots Springs State Park. This was a really wonderful, surprise find. "The World's Largest Mineral Hot Spring"

Free entrance to a 104 degree indoor and outdoor natural hot spring pool for 20 minutes, plus free showers. So we put in some laundry at a local coin-op laundry and soaked in the springs and showered!

The Natural Hotsprings has created its own enormous terrace much like the Grand Terraces at the Monolith area of Yellow Stone Park. Thin it trickles over on a wide front into the local river. Meanwhile the township was hosting a three on three basket ball turnourment and had blocked of 2 main city streets un put up tens of basket ball hoops.

From Thermopolis we continued on through the beautiful gorge of the Wind river and then at Riverton turned West again, reaching the town of Dubois in time for dinner. There we caught another delightful example of Americana - a pool tournament. We stayed and watch this guy in a wheel chair spin around expertly, but felt bad when he missed his last ball, and his competitor was able to clean up.

Then it was on to the Grand Tetons. The camp ground at Brooks Lake was still closed to all but skidoos, so we slept in the parking lot of a gas station/lodge at the top of the pass into the Grand Tetons. Then Next morning head on into the park.

Even less things were open than at Yellowstone, but at least the heated toilets at the Colter Bay visitor's centre were open, even if the rest of the centre was not. It was beautiful and all, but since we didn't have skis, or snow shoes, we basically just drove on through stopping at the main visitor's centre at the south entrance,

Like YNP there was lots of parking - even if it was under 5 feet of snow - like this Disabled parking spot! They are beautiful, and dramatic in the way the rise straight out of the plain with no foothills - but we got the idea, so headed on to Jackson for Lunch. Jackson has groomed ski trails, and a huge elk reserve with a lovely visitors centre, and a town square with four archways made of naturally shed elk antlers. From Jackson we headed South and East leaving behind the snow as we headed for the Flaming Gorge.
